Painting the racecar:
Kirk was very interested in learning how to do all the body work and prep work in order to paint the car himself. With the coaching of his friend and co-worker Walt Imhof, he undertook the big project and painted his first car. After all the body work was done, the car was primed with a urethane primer.
The next Big Step:
After the urethane primer was sprayed, kirk then proceeded to spray on the gold base.
The jams were painted first. Of course he also had to have a matching helmet.

The Color:
After the gold base was applied he painted five coats of "House of Kolor Kandy Tangerine" followed by three coats of Dupont clear.

First the old fram rails, floor pan and connectors were removed.
Next the cross member was tacked in place followed by the two frame rails.
All of the four link brackets were than tacked in place along with coil over mount. The housing was cut to length and everything verified.
The frame connectors were tacked into place and all of the finish welding was done at this point. All chassis and cage welding was done with TIG. The roll cage installation began with the main hoop being welded to the outriggers between the frame connectors and the inner rocker. The rear bars and X-bar were installed next.
All of the bracketry for the fuel cell, battery and fuel pump were fabricated and welded in place. All portions of the frame and cage that were complete recieved paint at this time. The wheel tubs were installed next followed by the rest of the tin work.
The rest of the roll cage was installed and painted. The carpet, seat, electronics, and plumbing were installed followed by the wheels and tires. The car was off to the track the day it was finished, which was opening day of points at Lancaster Dragway. After some suspension tuning the car is turning very consistent 1.40's in the 60ft. It is currently the Pro class leader and second in division three box Summit Super Series.
